Obituary
Obituary of Ruth Eileen Phyllis Whipple
Ruth Whipple passed gently and in peace with her family by her side on Thursday, January 10, 2019 at Bobby’s Hospice. Born on November 19, 1938 in Quispamsis, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Jennie (Saunders) Chamberlain.
Ruth will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Jennifer "Madrona" Wienges (Jacob) of Rockport, ME; grandsons, Ossian, Yonah, Luka, and Ronan; as well as many much loved nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was one of nine children, and is also survived by her sister, Betty Saltzman and sister-in-law, Mary Chamberlain. Besides her husband, Brian and parents, she was also predeceased by her sisters, Doris Richards (Don), Willa Polluck (Art) and Carol Butler (Frank) and brothers, Don (Elise), Joe (Lolly), Ossie and Bob (Fern).
Ruth enjoyed some lovely years in retirement from her retail work at Sears, and managed Chamberlain Nursing Home uptown for many years prior. Her many joys included gardening, golfing, traveling, cross country skiing at Rockwood Park, curling at Thistle St. Andrews, lawn bowling with the Seaside Lawn Bowling Club, volunteering at the Imperial Theatre, and gleefully outsmarting friends and family in her favourite card games.
In keeping with Ruth’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424).
Ruth’s family would like to thank her neighbours for being such good and caring friends for Ruth. She loved and appreciated them dearly. The family would also like to extend immeasurable gratitude to Bobby’s Hospice for their extraordinary skill, compassion, and kindness. They transformed what otherwise could have been a very difficult time for Ruth into days of joy, comfort, and fellowship.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Bobby’s Hospice. A celebration of life will be planned for the early summer.
