Obituary of Leonard Volney
It is with appreciation for a life well lived that the family of Leonard Volney, loving husband to the late Margery (DeVries) Volney, announces his passing which occurred on Saturday, November 26, 2016 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born on January 9, 1918, he was a son to the late Henry and Lillian (Yearwood) Volney. Leonard was employed as a shift supervisor with Irving Oil Ltd for many years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Loyalist City Amateur Radio Club, the Senior Citizens Club and the Senior Citizens Federation. Leonard will be missed by his children; Winston (Pat) Volney, Shelley McBrearty, and Elizabeth (Bernard) Cormier; grandchildren, Peter Volney and Frank (Katherine) McBrearty; along with several nieces, nephews and members of his extended family. Besides his parents and wife, Leonard was also predeceased by his sisters and brothers. Leonard’s family would like to thank the staff of the SJRH Emergency and Palliatve Units for the excellent care that was given to him, thank you to Dr. Bewick and Rhonda Loesin. Also, a special thank you to the staff of Shannex Concord Hall for their compassion and care. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visiting on Tuesday, November 29, 2016 4:00 - 8:00 PM. A Knights of Columbus Tribute Service will be said at 7 PM on Tuesday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 91 Waterloo Street, Saint John on Wednesday, November 30, 2016 at 12:10 PM. Interment will take place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society or a charity of donor’s choice.
