Obituary of Sister Cecile Dionne

Sister Cecile Alphonsine Dionne (Sister Mary Rosanna) passed away peacefully at Ruth Ross Residence on Friday, January 18, 2019. She was born in Saint-André, New Brunswick on July 26, 1922 and was a daughter of the late Cyprien and Anna (Poitras) Dionne. She entered the Sisters of Charity of the Immaculate Conception on December 8, 1937. She was predeceased by her five sisters, Yvonne Poitras, Ida Morin, Sister Laura Dionne, SCIC, Jean Carrier and Angela Theroux and her four brothers, Eloi, George, John and Fernand. Throughout her ministry, Sister Cecile served as a homemaker for thirty-two years at various convents in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Saskatchewan, Quebec and Alberta. In 1981, she completed her Health Record Technician Course from Catholic Health Association, Ottawa. Sister Cecile worked as Ward Clerk and Medical Records Clerk at Rocmaura Nursing Home in Saint John. Following her ministry in Medical Records, Sister Cecile served for a number of years as receptionist at Rocmaura Nursing Home. In these ministries, she was well loved for her warm, welcoming presence and beautiful smile. Arrangements are under the care of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (634-7424). Visitation will take place at Ruth Ross Residence, 105 Burpee Ave., Saint John, on Thursday, January 24, from 6-8 pm, with Evening Prayer Vigil at 7:00 pm in Carmel Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from Carmel Chapel on Friday, January 25, at 10:00 am. Interment will take place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
