Obituary of John Harold Brookins
The passing of John "Jack" Harold Brookins occurred on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Jack was born in Saint John, NB and was the son of the late Harold and Mildred (Davidson) Brookins. Jack worked at NB Publishing Co. for 37 years prior to retiring in 1992. In his younger years Jack played baseball, loved his hockey and especially loved playing for the Jolly Rogers. He never lost his love for sports and could be seen watching everything from hockey to golf on television. Survived by his long time, loving companion Sandra McEachern; his daughters Crystal Layden (Peter) of Moncton and Sharon Pursey (Mark Breen) of Saint John. He is also survived by his brother Ronald Brookins, his four grandchildren Matthew, Erin-Lee, Jason and Mikayla; son in law Donald Hawkins, daughter in law Dawn Brookins, Kathy Brown (Sandra’s daughter) and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Phyllis (Melvin) Brookins, daughter Teri-Lee Hawkins, son John Brookins, sisters Katherine Marr and Constance Reid and his parents. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (634-7424) with visitation on Wednesday, April 5, 2017 from 4-8 PM. The funeral service will be held from St. John the Baptist (Mission Church) and St. Clements, 815 Millidge Ave., Saint John on Thursday, April 6, 2017 at 11:00 AM. Interment will take place at Fernhill Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances in memory of Jack may be made to the ALS Society of NB or a charity of the donor’s choice.
