Obituary of John W. Thorne

It is with heavy hearts and gratitude for a life well-lived that the family of John "Jack" Thorne announces his peaceful passing, which occurred on Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at Orchard View Long Term Care Home in Gagetown. Born in Saint John on March 4, 1927, he was a son of the late Bruce and Jessie (Foster) Thorne and is the last surviving member of his immediate family. Jack grew up in Saint John’s North End with his family. He lived on Victoria Street for many years, and upon his retirement from McAvity’s , he moved to Cambridge-Narrows to live in the house next door to his niece, Linda. He enjoyed being outdoors, hunting and fishing in his younger years. Seven years ago, Jack made the decision to move into Orchard View Long Term Care Home at the same time his sister, Helen, was moving there. He found great joy in the activities, the friendships formed, and the sense of family and belonging they offered. Jack will be missed by his nieces and nephews, Linda Lee (Ed) of Cambridge-Narrows, Ken Thorne (Linda) of Ontario, Carol Lee (Robert) of Saint John and Jack Thorne (Cindy) of Saint John; 16 great nieces and nephews; 25 great great nieces and nephews; as well as his family at Orchard View, whom he loved very much. In addition to his parents, Jack was predeceased by his siblings: Robert, Roy, Wilmot, Helen and Hazel. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (634-7424) with visitation on Sunday, October 1, 2017 from 3-8 pm. A Celebration of Jack’s Life will be held on Monday, October 2, 2017 at 12:00 pm from Brenan’s Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will take place at Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Orchard View Long Term Care home, Ostomy Association, or Canadian Cancer Society.
