Obituary of Hartley James Biggs
The death of Hartley James Biggs, husband of the late Barbara (Doig) Biggs, occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Friday, January 29, 2016. Born in McKees Mills on March 22, 1926, he was a son of the late James and Grace (Beers) Biggs. Hartley worked as an engineer for the Canadian National Railway for 43 years before retirement. He served in WWII with the Royal Canadian Armed Forces, and was an avid gardener. Hartley is survived by his two daughters, Margaret Biggs Melanson (Kim), of Cole Harbour, NS; and Katherine Biggs-Craft (Ken), of Saint John, NB; two grandsons, David and Andrew Craft; two sisters, Marjorie Glencross, of Maynard, Mass; and Shirley MacDonald, of Moncton, NB; two sisters in law, Shirley and Georgina Biggs; and several nieces and nephews. Aside from his wife and parents, he was predeceased by three brothers, Waldo, Chester and Kenneth, and three sisters Eleanor Garnett, Lenora Hudson, and Helen DiIulio. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (634-7424), with visitation on Tuesday, February 2, 2016 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. A funeral service will be held from Silver Falls United Church, 840 Loch Lomond Rd., Saint John, on Wednesday, February 3, 2016 at 11:00 AM. Interment will take place in Fernhill Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances in memory of Hartley may be made to Silver Falls United Church or a charity of the donor’s choice.
