Obituary of Virginia Ann Kretzschmar
Our Mom, who gave us her gifts of creativity, her passion for gardening and her love of family, passed away Friday evening, January 5, 2018, so happy to be home from her recent hospitalization, and in the company of her son, Jim and daughter, Angie. Virginia Ann Kretzschmar was born January 17, 1939 in Syracuse, New York to Myrtle (Watson) Tuttle and Wallace Tuttle. While a child she went to live with Ralph Oliver and Mable Lackland Frazer who raised her. In 1957, she married William Joseph Melchior and together they had one child, Victoria Irene. Later, the couple divorced and in 1963 Virginia married Charles Paul Kretzschmar. They were blessed with two children, James Paul and Angela Louise. Mom’s life was filled with beauty and creativity. She was an artist in so many ways. Not only on paper or canvas, but in the world around her. She found joy and contentment as she decorated her home, enjoyed birds in the yard, and loved adding to the beauty of nature with flowers and design. With her keen aptitude for math, she greatly enjoyed her tax preparation jobs in the 1970s and 1980s. Over the past 20 years, working at McKay's Blueberries in Pennfield was a great joy for her, both for the challenging work involved and the great people she met. Mom was predeceased by Charles Kretzschmar, brother James Frazer of Texas and sister Anna Bell of New York. Surviving are her children Jim of Saint John, Victoria and husband Jack Eastman of Maine, Angie and husband Derek Stibbard of Ottawa; grandchildren, Victor, Logan and Declan; brothers, Richard and Sandy Tuttle of New York, Jim and Cheryl VanLengen of New York, Frank and and Carol Hajney of Florida, Robert and Betty Frazer of New Mexico, Jack and Janet Frazer of California, Paul and Mary Frazer of Maryland; sisters Joyce and Dave Hutchinson of New York and Patty Pearce of New York; lots of loving nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews, and dear close friends in Saint John and Charlotte County. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Bobby’s Hospice in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada or to a hospice in your area. Also consider the Saint John Regional Hospital Foundation, where the staff was so kind and encouraging to our Mom during her hospital stay. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) where family and friends are invited to visit between the hours of 7-9 PM on Tuesday, January 9.
