Obituary of John Irwin Graves
It is with heavy hearts that the family of John I. Graves of Black River, loving husband of Marjorie (O’Donnell) Graves, announces his passing which occurred on Thursday, January 11, 2018 at Ridgewood Veteran’s Wing. Born in Saint John on February 28, 1921, he was a son of the late Harry S. and Letitia (Moore) Graves. John was a veteran of the Second World War. He served in Canada in 1939. He served overseas from 1943-1945 with the R.C.A.M.C. He retired from the Lancaster D.V.A. Hospital after 36 years of service in 1982. He served as a Warden and on the Vestry of St. Thomas Church, Black River. In addition to his wife, John will be missed by two daughters: Judith Walsh (Ken) of Black River and Kathy Baxter (Wayne) of Baxters Corner; Three sons: John Graves (Donna), Douglas Graves (Sandra) and Barry all of Black River; thirteen grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, three sisters: Lillian Whitney, Sophia Little, Nina Grant and Iva Little; and two brothers, Tom Graves and Bob Graves. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (634-7424) with visitation on Sunday, January 14, 2018 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. The Royal Canadian Legion veteran tribute service will be held during visitation at 7:00 pm. A celebration of John’s life will be held on Monday, January 15, 2018 at 2:00 PM from Brenan’s Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will take place at a later date at St. Thomas Anglican Church Cemetery, Black River. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to Parish of Fundy and the Lakes (St. Thomas Anglican Church) or a charity of the donor’s choice.
