Obituary of Ella Marie LaFleur
In Loving Memory February 13, 1927-February 19, 2016 It is with great sadness, the LaFleur family announces the passing of Ella Marie LaFleur, 89, of Saint John, New Brunswick on February 19th, 2016 at Embassy Hall, Shannex. Born in Chicoutimi, Quebec, February 13, 1927, she was the oldest of nine children of the late Ethel Allain (1979) and late Thomas LeBreton (1986). Ella spent her formative years in Neguac, New Brunswick, where she taught school. She later moved to Newark, New Jersey where she met and married her lifelong partner Louis Edmund LaFleur (1993). In 1963 Ella and her family moved back to Canada taking up residence in Saint John, New Brunswick. Ella was employed at the Saint John Dry Dock, Saint John City Hall and established the first special care home in Saint John. Her love, kindness and thoughtfulness of others, the elegance and grace of her hospitality as well as the comfort of her food will always be remembered. Ella’s home and gardens were always made beautiful by her creative talents. Ella was devoted to all her family and she dearly loved her four daughters and two sons; She leaves behind her children Debra (John) McGiffin, Ottawa; Corinne (Brian) MacDonald, Saint John; Michele (Gary) Breen, Quispamsis; Leo (Ellen Smith) LaFleur, Saint John; Gisele (Pat) Quinlan, Quispamsis; Louis (Rose Richard) LaFleur, Fredericton, 19 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. She also leaves behind her sisters, Camela (Norbert Allain), Claudette (Gérald Comeau), a brother-in-law Robert Cormier, nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. She is predeceased by two sisters, Jeannine and Camela in infancy; four brothers, Alban, Hector, Clarence and Donald; and four sisters-in-law, Pauline, Hélène, Simone and Lina. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John NB (634-7424). At Ella’s request there will be no visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, 31 Gondola Point Rd., Rothesay, N.B. on Friday, February 26th at 11:00 am, followed by a reception. Family and friends are welcome to attend. Interment will take place at a later date. Remembrances in memory of Ella may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Heart and Stroke Foundation or to a charity of one's choice.
