Obituary of Maria Georgoudis
The family of Maria Georgoudis is sad to announce her unexpected passing on September 13, 2016. At the age of 76 she peacefully passed in her sleep. Maria was born on February 17, 1940 in southern Greece to the late Kyriakos and Demetra (Sgardelis) Papoulis. She moved to Canada to marry her long time love Peter Georgoudis on July 22, 1961. Together they raised three children. Her children and grandchildren were her passion as was her love of gardening. She would spend hours planting and tending to her beautiful flowers. She was strong in her faith and was a member of the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church and choir. Maria is survived by her devoted and loving husband of 55 years Peter Georgoudis, daughters Penny Georgoudis (John Mitsopulos) of Toronto, Demetra Georgoudis (Petros Gouskos) of Montreal, George (Angela) Georgoudis of Rothesay and her beautiful grandchildren, Maria, Olivia, Adryan, Olivia, Peter and Thalia, her sister Zoe, brother Anastasios and many nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters in law. She was predeceased by her parents and her brother Christos Papoulis and her sister Kaliopi Ploumidis. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (634-7424) with visitation being held on Friday, September 16, 2016 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. A funeral service will be held from the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 91 Waterloo St., Saint John, NB on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at 10:00 AM. Interment will take place at Fernhill Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances in memory of Maria may be placed to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of NB or the Canadian Diabetes Association.
