Obituary of Annabelle Doris Powell

Surrounded by family and love, Annabelle Doris Powell died on January 13, 2016 in her 81st year. Born in Cape Tormentine, NB on September 2, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Edgar and Vonnie Sara (Allen) Cormier. She is survived by her beloved husband of 62 years, Frank and their children, Edgar, Beverley, Dr. Catherine and Michael (Kimber) Powell all of Saint John, NB; grandchildren, Joseph (Tammy) Powell of Quispamsis, NB, Matthew Powell (Katie Cannon) of Keswick, ON, Jesse Powell of Sutton, ON, Laura Campbell of Toronto, ON, Daniel Powell of Saint John, NB and Ryan Powell (Danielle Walker) of Saint John, NB; great-grandchildren, Ryan and Ruthie Powell of Quispamsis, NB; many nieces, nephews and extended family; as well as extra-special friends, Valerie Gray, Wendy Coffill Powell and Lucy the neighbourhood cat. Predeceased by her parents; brother, Hampton Cormier; sister, Constance (Connie) Shred; brothers-in-law, Steve Shred and John (Jack) Powell and sister-in-law, Helen Baier. Annabelle was employed with Eaton’s in Moncton, NB and then became a full-time mother of four until she and Frank began their own business, FMP Enterprises Ltd. She served as the company Vice-President and Secretary Treasurer from 1971 until their retirement in 1998. Annabelle was 1st Mate of the Rogues Roost and, along with Frank, her children and Chihuahua/Pekingese/Tibetan Spaniel dogs, spent many fun-filled years cruising on the St. John and Kennebecasis River systems. She was a past member of the Saint John Power Boat Club and the Royal Kennebecasis Yacht Club. Annabelle had a passion for tracing family history. She enjoyed gardening, bird watching, needlework and knitting. She crocheted over 175 afghans, donating many to St. Joseph’s Hospital Health & Aging Program, Ridgewood Veterans Wing, Saint John Regional Hospital Palliative Care Unit and Bobby’s Hospice; as well as sharing with family and friends. Annabelle was a realist, a woman ahead of her time, always very practical, organized, straightforward and honest. She was gentle-hearted, generous with her family and friends and appreciated a good laugh. She will be missed. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (634-7424). In keeping with Annabelle’s wishes no visitation or public funeral service will be held. Following cremation interment will take place in the Powell family burial plot, Hampton Rural Cemetery, Hampton, NB at a future date at which time a graveside memorial service will be held for family.
