Obituary of Jean Marie Lafontaine
It is with appreciation for a life well-lived that the family of Jean Marie (Richardson) Lafontaine announce her passing, which occurred on Sunday, May 21, 2017. Born in Saint John, NB, on December 28, 1931, she was the daughter of the late John and Margaret (Hogan) Richardson. Mom joined the Navy in 1957 after completing her Registered Nursing Training at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Saint John, NB. During the time of her training and Naval experience Mom made many lifelong friends with whom she shared many happy times. Mom met our Dad, Mike, while in the Navy in Halifax. Mom had a great, fun and quirky sense of humor as well as a real feisty streak, she could make you laugh when you were sad or afraid. As her children, no matter where we were or what we were doing, we knew she would always love and support us. Mom cherished her time spent with her many friends as well as with the various groups she was involved with over the years. Loving mother to Andrew Lafontaine (Ruth), Peggy Lafontaine (Noel Lake), Tom Lafontaine (Linda), Pat Lafontaine (Christa), Holly Berry (Scott); cherished grandmother to 5 grandchildren. Jean is also survived by her brothers: Donald Richardson, William "Bud" Richardson (Florence) and Robert "Bob" Richardson (Abby); along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents, Jean was predeceased by her first husband, Michael Lafontaine; second husband, Ralph Savage; brother, Derald Richardson and sister-in-law, Irene Richardson. We would like to thank Dr. A. Rambaut, the staff at Concord Hall, the staff at 5CN Saint John Regional Hospital, as well as the staff at Bobby’s Hospice for their exceptional kindness and care of our Mom. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (634-7424). Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 24, 2017 from 4:00 pm – 7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held from St. Pius X Parish, 316 Somerset Street, Saint John, on Thursday, May 25, 2017 at 11:00 AM. Interment will take place at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jean’s memory can be made to Alzheimer Society of NB or Bobby’s Hospice.
