Obituary of Ruth Elizabeth Cosman
With sorrow, the family of Ruth Elizabeth (Kilpatrick) Cosman, wife of the late Lawrence Cosman, announce her peaceful passing, on Wednesday, February 6, 2019 at home. Born September 2, 1940 in Florenceville NB, she was the only child of the late Emery and Alberta (Caldwell) Kilpatrick.
Anybody who knew Ruth would usually comment how she seemed to be so full of energy, that she seemed to know everyone and that her door was always open. Ruth loved to help those in need and she loved visitors. Before being somewhat immobilized by age, Ruth loved to travel, across Canada and even overseas, to visit her children and grandchildren. She was fiercely proud of her family. Her love of plants and cactus also kept her busy. For many years she was an active congregation member of the Church of St Andrew and St David and was a formidable force in the church kitchen cooking for charity and community suppers. Ruth had a giving heart and was involved in various charities. She always loved those organizations that worked closest with the most vulnerable in society.
Ruth worked as a nurse in the Royal Victorian Order of Nursing for many years prior to having children. Later when her children were grown, she went back to nursing both privately and at St. Joseph’s hospital. She always said how much she loved working with and helping people. St. Joseph’s always held a special spot in her heart whether it was her memories of working there when she was young or in her middle age, or her patient visits as a birthing mother or eventual visits as a senior.
Ruth is survived by her sons: Gregory (Crystal), Jeffrey (Judi), and Jim (Julie); daughter, Colleen (Keith); grandchildren: Bradley, Jacob (Wendy), Chantel, Emi, Polly, Nicholas, Petra, Annalise, Mackenzie, Taylor, and Grace, and great grandchild Kayden.
Arrangements are under the care of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Monday, February 11, 2019 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm. A funeral service will be held from Brenan’s Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, February 12, 2019 at 2 pm. Remembrances to Romero House or a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
