Obituary of Marion Frances Armstrong
It is with deep sadness that the family of Marion Frances "Mern" Armstrong announces her passing, which occurred at Shannex, Embassy Hall on Tuesday, October 31, 2017 at the age of 87. Born in Saint John on February 25, 1930, she was a daughter of the late William and Mildred (Beatty) Thompson. Mern was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed bowling, playing cards, gardening, sewing and knitting. She also enjoyed her cottage where she liked to entertain family and friends. She spent many enjoyable winters in Florida making many friends, golfing, and playing shuffleboard. If you were at her house or cottage near dinner time, she wouldn’t let you leave – one of her favourite sayings was "what’s another potato in the pot?" She will be missed by her loving husband of 68 years, Willard Armstrong; her three children, Paul (Janet) of Nova Scotia, Mark (Karen) and Susan Armstrong-Best (Peter) of Rothesay; seven grandchildren, Craig (Toni) and Kristin, Zachary (Nicole) and Jennifer, Natalie, Colin and Curtis; two great grandchildren, Cecelia and Carter; her brother, Roy; sisters, Carol Dallon, Elva Steele (Joe), Norma Dunn (Arthur) all of Saint John; as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mern was predeceased by three brothers, Thomas, Arthur and Murray; and one sister, Ada. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (634-7424) with visitation on Sunday, November 19, 2017 from 2-8 pm. A Celebration of Mern’s life will be held on Monday, November 20, 2017 at 11:00 am from Church of Christ the King (formerly St. James Lakewood), 2000 Loch Lomond Road. Interment will take place at Ocean View Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Alzheimer Society, Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of the donor’s choice.
