Obituary of Clinton "Ranald" Urquhart
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Clinton "Ranald" Urquhart announce his passing on Saturday, July 29, 2017 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Campbellton, NB on October 19, 1921, he was the loving husband of Verna (Earle) Urquhart for 70 years and the son of the late Arnold and Leota (Reicker) Urquhart, of Kars, NB. Ranald was a farmer for many years and upon relocating to Saint John in 1948 he worked for MacKay Forest Products and retired from Atlantic Sugar after 38 years of service as a Power House Foreman. Defining ‘the strong silent type’, Ranald was a man of few words but also a man who had an enormous heart and a particular soft spot for his grandchildren and great grandchildren alike. When he did speak, it was with purpose and his sense of humour was always evident by the way his eyes would light up, long before you ever heard him laugh. In addition to his wife Verna, he is survived by his only son R. Dale Urquhart (Leah Bates) of Erb’s Cove, NB; four grandchildren: Andrew (Michelle) Urquhart, Jacinda (Colin) Wilband, Angela (Matthew) Guptill and Justin (Emily) Urquhart; 12 great grandchildren: Collette, Jackson, Payton, Morgan Urquhart, Emery, Blake Wilband, Megan, Owen, Ethan, Ayda, Macey Guptill and Thiem Urquhart; brother Stuart (Eleanor) Urquhart; and sister in law Alice Urquhart, Toronto, ON; and several cousins. Ranald was predeceased by his sisters, Margaret Killeen (late Drick), Mary Grass (late Kenneth); two brothers, Malcolm (late Clara) and Ralph Urquhart of Toronto, ON. Ranald was a member of Beulah Baptist Church, Kars, NB and during his residence in Saint John was an active member of Tabernacle Baptist Church, having served as Trustee and Deacon for over 30 years. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (634-7424) with visitation on Tuesday, August 1, 2017 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. The funeral service will be held from Brenan’s Chapel on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at 11:00 AM. Interment will take place in Erb’s Cove Baptist Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances in memory may be made to the Saint John Regional Hospital Extra Mural Program or a charity of the donor’s choice.
