Obituary of Mervil Bernice Sweet
The death of Mervil "Mert" Sweet, beloved wife of the late Edward ‘Eddie" Sweet occurred on Friday, August 12, 2016 at Turnbull Nursing Home. Born on September 6, 1927 in St. John’s, NL, she was the daughter of the late James and Elsie (Dykeman) Shute. Mert devoted her life to caring for the needs of her family. She will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend to many. Mert was a skilled seamstress and also enjoyed knitting, dancing whenever she could and had a smile that will never be forgotten. She enjoyed going for drives and together with Eddie shared adventures on their many trips. She will be sadly missed. Mert is survived by her children, Marina Sweet (Leo Pretty) of Alberta, Judy Burns (James) of Summerville, Alan Sweet of Kingston and Charlotte Sweet of Quispamsis; sisters, Vi, Marina, Joan and Gerry; grandchildren, Tony, Shawn, Amanda, Tom, Angela, Maryanne, James, Emily, Shannon, Megan and Alli; many great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by several brothers and sisters. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visiting on Monday, August 15, 2016 from 12:00 - 2:00 PM, immediately followed by the funeral service at 2:00 PM, all from Brenan’s Chapel. Interment will take place in Ocean View Memorial Gardens. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
