Obituary of Robert James Kaine

It is with deep sadness that the family and friends of Robert "Bobby" James Kaine announce his passing, which occurred on October 22, 2017 in Golden, BC. Born 1965 in Saint John, he was the eldest son of Raymond Kaine and Marjorie Wilson. Bob was the consummate outdoorsman who enjoyed spending time at his beloved lakes (East Long Lake and Otter Lake) with family and friends, fishing and telling tall tales. Bob also was an avid fly fisherman who loved being on the Miramichi River. Anytime spent in the woods, hunting or fishing was a good time for Bobby. Bob played hockey at a highly competitive level, being a member of the ’92 Allan Cup champion Saint John Vito’s. Since "retiring" from competitive hockey he continued to play at the recreational level. Bobby also volunteered with Saint John Youth Hockey, coaching and assisting at many age levels. He also served as an assistant coach with the Saint John Sea Dogs. Bob was a proud member of the Saint John Fire Department. His most recent posting was as a Fire Prevention Officer. He loved sharing fire prevention education with young people and especially enjoyed his time visiting schools throughout the Saint John area where he taught fire safety. Bob will be missed by his brothers and sisters in the Fire Department as well as by the many children who looked up to him. Bobby is survived by his son, Alex (Betty) of Glendon, AB and Michelle Kaine (Bob’s first love and mother of Alex). He will be forever missed by his two adored grandchildren, Sydnee and Charlotte. Bobby is also survived by his father, Raymond (Mary-Jo MacRae) of Gagetown; mother, Marjorie Wilson of Cold Lake, AB; brothers, Raymond (Lana) of Saint John, Richard (Jennifer) of Fort McMurray, AB and sister, Angela Grant (Tim) of Bonnyville, AB; sister-in-law, Morgan Palmer of Saint John; nieces and nephews, Charray Owen (Dave), Alicia Scott (Cody), Briana Grant (Allen), Patrick and Matthew Kaine, Adreya and Irie Palmer; great-nieces and great-nephews, Avery, Cayden, Lochlan and Olivia. In addition to his immediate family, he leaves behind his cherished dog, Bauer. He was predeceased by his best friend and grandfather, Ted "Papa" Kaine; Grammy Doris Kaine and Grammy Mary Wilson. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visiting on Wednesday, November 1 from 6-8 PM and Thursday, November 2 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from Stella Maris Church, 201 Bayside Drive, Saint John on Friday, November 3, 2017 at 12:00 Noon. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to PRO Kids, Canadian Mental Health Association, Saint John Boys & Girls Club or a charity of the donor’s choice. During this trying time, the family requests privacy from the media.
