Obituary of Margaret Mary "Peggy" Lawson
The family of Margaret (Peggy) Lawson wish to announce her passing on September 23, 2017 at MacLeod House, Hilden, NS where she resided since 2009. She was born on May 25, 1920 in Westport, Ontario to the late Michael and Elizabeth (Mooney) Speagle. Peggy was a devoted wife, married to Leonard Lawson for 66 years at the time of his death in 2008. She is survived by her son Jack Lawson (Jane) of Shediac, NB, and his children Julie (Daniel) and John; daughters Jane Lawson of Toronto, ON and Mary MacDougall (John) of Otter Brook, NS and her children Katie (Andrew), Ian (Elizabeth) and Meg. She is also survived by five great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family which included nine siblings. Peggy, Len and family moved from Cornwall, Ontario to Saint John New Brunswick in 1960. They resided on Dever Road in Saint John West. Peggy is remembered as a wonderful cook and a loving supporter of her husband, children and grandchildren. She was active in her community and was a member of St. Rose of Lima Parish, St. Pius X Church, the Thistle Curling Club and Westfield Golf and Country Club. Len and Peggy spent many happy retirement years in Largo, Florida where they enjoyed playing bridge and golf with their many friends. The family would like to thank the staff at MacLeod House, under the leadership of Donna Harvey, for their attentive care over the last eight years,. We would also like to acknowledge the kindness shown to her by her special caregiver, Debbie Neilson. Thank you to Father Darius Miskowicz, Gary Ryan, and Trish Reynolds from Immaculate Conception Parish who brought her peace and comfort. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, N.B. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from Cathedral of The Immaculate Conception, 91 Waterloo Street, Saint John. N.B. on Thursday, September 28, 2017 at 12:10 pm. A reception will follow the Mass at Fitzpatrick’s Funeral Home at 100 Waterloo Street. Interment will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances to the Beatrice Hunter Cancer Research Institute in Halifax, NS (www.bhcri.ca) or Bobby’s Hospice in Saint John, NB (www.hospicesj.ca) would be appreciated by the family.
