Obituary of Thelma Marion McMillan
It is with great sorrow and heavy hearts that the family announce the passing of their mother, Thelma McMillan, wife to the late George L. McMillan, which occurred on Saturday, September 3, 2016 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born on August 23, 1928 in Saint John, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Mabel (Cackett) Dunphy. Thelma will always be remembered as a loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend and nanny to many. She devoted her life to caring for the needs of her family and especially treasured the times she spent with those she loved. Thelma enjoyed listening to country music, clogging and dancing. She will be sadly missed. Thelma is survived by her children, George (Sue) of Saint John, John (Maureen) of Dartmouth, NS; Gordon (Cheryl), Dawn Marie Durley (Bruce) and Crystal Koven (Mark) all of Saint John; son-in-law, Carl Hayes of Saint John; sister, Theresa Roy (George) of Saint John; sister-in-law, Zita McMillan of Ontario; brother-in-law, Harley Murray of Sussex; 17 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her sons, Bruce and Edward; daughter, Deborah; as well as siblings, Evelyn Hilden, Florence Coyle, John, Edward, Walter and Robert Dunphy. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visiting on Sunday, September 4, 2016 from 6-8 PM and Monday, September 5, 2016 and Tuesday, September 6, 2016 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from Holy Trinity Church, 348 Rockland Road, Saint John on Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at 12:00 Noon. Interment will take place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
