Obituary of Irene Dorothy Cook
It is with appreciation for a life well-lived that the family of Irene D. Cook announces her passing, which occurred on Friday, May 26, 2017 at Bobby’s Hospice surrounded by her loving family. Born in Saint John, NB on December 21, 1923, she was a daughter of the late Arthur and Ellen (White) McHugh. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Irene was an avid bowler, and also worked for many years at Fairview Bowling Lanes in the snack bar. She enjoyed playing bingo with her friends at her favourite Royal Canadian Legion and loved a good card game, especially Auction 45. Irene will be missed by her children: Dorothy Rowe (Gordon), John Cook, Jean Moore, Patricia Kaye, Mary Cook, Theresa Wilcox (John), James Cook, Edward "Butch" Cook (Elizabeth), Warren Cook and Thomas Cook; her grandchildren: Carrie, Troy, Robyn, Jennifer, Sean, Rachel, Jamie, Tammy, Jason, Trevor, Katie, Michael, David, Matthew, Anzonette, Murry, Ian and Amy; several great grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family. In addition to her parents and husband, John Douglas Cook, Irene was predeceased by her son, Percy; two infant children, Donna and Arthur; a granddaughter, Judy; her brothers: Bernard, Gerald, Thomas, Theodore "Bill", Donald and Hubert; her sisters: Helen, Barbara, Connie and Mary. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB with visiting on Monday, May 29, 2017 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm with a Ladies Auxiliary Tribute taking place at 7pm. A Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated from Brenan’s Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at 12:00 pm. Interment will take place at St. Joseph’s Cemetery on Wednesday, May 31 at 11:00 am. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Bobby’s Hospice, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
