Obituary of Laurence Gilbert Freeze
With appreciation for a life well-lived, the family of Laurence G. Freeze "Uncle Butch" announces his passing, which occurred on Thursday, December 29, 2016 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John on October 3, 1928, he was a son of the late Walter and Mary (Snider) Freeze and was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Laurence took great pride in his community, and was a member of many organizations including a lifetime member of Portland United Church. He was an avid bowler at the west side Bowlarama, and was a part of various teams until the fall of 2016. He was a member of Carleton Union No. 8 F & AM and was a 32nd degree Scottish rite mason; he was a member of Luxor Shriners and Luxor Railway Unit; a 70 year member and past county master of Loyal Orange Order; and a 50 year member of the Black Knights of Ireland; he was a past grand chancellor for the Knights of Pythias and DOKKi’s. Uncle Butch also loved spending time at the "country house" on the Kingston peninsula with his family. He will be missed by his nephews, Scott (Marion), Jack (Florence), David (Karen), Sandy and Tim; nieces, Dawne (Ken), Carol (Sonny), Melita and Marion; as well as several great nephews and great nieces. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his siblings, Rachel, Arnita, Walter, Malcolm, Marian and Vivian. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (634-7424) with visiting on Monday, January 2, 2017 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. The Carleton Union Lodge will be holding a Masonic Service at 6:45 pm. A celebration of Laurence’s life will be held on Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at 12:00 pm from Brenan’s Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will take place at Greenwood Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital, New Brunswick Children’s Foundation, or Canadian Cancer Society.
