Obituary of Phyllis Warwick Durrant

It is with great sadness that the family of Phyllis Warwick Durrant announce her passing at the Saint John Regional Hospital on June 26, 2017. Born August 1, 1918 in Saint John, she was the daughter of Orlando Henry Warwick and Nina Kathleen Bulyea of Saint John and Gagetown N.B. Phyllis was predeceased by her husband of 60+ years, Arthur S. Durrant in 2004, and her son Charles David Durrant in 2012. She was also predeceased by her siblings Harold in 2009, Bill in 2013 and Marjorie in 2016. Phyllis is survived by granddaughters Jenny Durrant (Eric Boyer) of Ottawa and Josie Kozack of Delta, B.C. She is also survived by two great grandchildren, Keegan Kozack and Kerrianne Kozack, also of Delta, whom she adored. As well, Phyllis is survived by several nieces and nephews. Called Pippa by her devoted husband, Phyllis was a graduate of Saint John High School (1935) and attended Saint John Business College. Her first and only job was with the Saint John General Hospital. She was an avid volunteer and amongst other things, delivered Meals on Wheels with her husband well into their retirement. Phyllis lived most of her adult life in Point Claire, Quebec. She and Art moved back to Westfield on his retirement and renovated her mother’s cottage. She was a world traveller, a regular contributor to Information Morning on CBC Saint John and loved to follow Major League Baseball. Phyllis loved to sing and play the piano, and loved to host gatherings at her home. Phyllis was an avid golfer and played until she was 97 years young. She was a member of the Westfield Golf and Country Club from the age of 12. Arrangements are under the care of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (634-7424). At Phyllis’ request, there will be no visitation, with a private graveside committal to be held at a later date. Donations in her memory may be made to the Westfield United Church Choir, The Saint John Regional Hospital Foundation, The Salvation Army, Meals on Wheels or a charity of the donor’s choice.
