It is with heavy hearts that the family of Marcella Gillcrist, wife of the late Douglas Gillcrist, announces her passing, which occurred on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at Bobby’s Hospice surrounded by her loving family. Born in Upham, NB on December 8, 1932, she was a daughter of the late William and Althea (Sherwood) Tayes. Marcella was a strong, independent woman, who was more than capable of looking after herself and her family. She could fix anything around the house, and also had a creative talent for quilting, knitting and crocheting. She also enjoyed dancing, especially square dancing with Doug. She will be missed by her children; Judy (Bruce) Jones, Mark (Peggy) Gillcrist and Charmaine Logan; grandchildren, Ryan (Melony), Heidi (Matthew), Colin (Amber), Ethan, Evan, Jeffrey (Amber) and Chelisa; great grandchildren, Rebecca, Katelyn, Zoe, Carter, Cimberlin, Adayah and Baylee; her siblings, Leona McEwen, Winnifred Colpitts (Guy), Norma Mallory (Willard) and Donnie Tayes (Shirley); as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, and her loving husband, Douglas, Marcella was predeceased by her siblings; Wallace, Cora, Wesley, Doris, Austin, Ruby, Alfie, Reginald, and an infant sister and brother who passed away at birth. The Family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff and volunteers at Bobby’s Hospice, for taking such amazing care of Marcella during her final journey. "Thank you for dedicating your life to helping others." Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (634-7424) with visiting on Tuesday, February 23, 2016 from 2-8 pm. A celebration of Marcella’s life will be held on Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at 2:00 pm from Brenan’s Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will take place at a later date at St. Peter’s Anglican Church Cemetery, Upham, NB. For those who wish, remembrances made to Bobby’s Hospice, or St. Peter’s Anglican Church in Upham would be appreciated by the family.
