Obituary of Sandra Lee Gamble
The death of Sandra "Sandy" Gamble of Saint John occurred on Monday, August 7, 2017 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born on August 4, 1941 in Saint John, she was the daughter of the late George and Sylvia (Cameron) Gamble. Sandy graduated from SJHS in 1959 and began teaching at an early age, after attending Teacher’s College in Fredericton. She earned her education degree from St. Thomas University. Sandy taught at various schools throughout the city, including Winter Street School, Rockwood Park School and ended her 34 year teaching career at Forest Hill Elementary. She continued to meet on a monthly basis with her former teaching friends. She was an active member of St. Pius X Parish and was dedicated to serving as Sacristan for several years. Sandy was a member of the parish Martha Guild and Jubilee 649 Fundraiser Committee. Her presence and unique personality will be greatly missed not only by her family but also by her many parish friends, her Somerset Park Community and also those at "Sarah’s" corner restaurant where she visited daily to read the newspaper, as she loved keeping up with current affairs. Sandy is survived by her brother, Hugh Scott Gamble (June) of Pembroke, ON; nieces, nephews and many dear friends. Besides her parents, she was also predeceased by her brother, Niles and her special canine companions, Goldie and Peanut. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visiting on Thursday, August 10, 2017 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Pius X Church, 316 Somerset Street, Saint John on Friday, August 11, 2017 at 12:00 Noon. Interment will take place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the SJRH Palliative Care Unit c/o the SJRH Foundation or a charity of the donor’s choice.
