Obituary of Elva Marie Ward

It is with great sadness the family of Elva Marie (Stewart) Ward, loving wife of the late Freeman Ward, announce her passing, which occurred on Sunday, February 21, 2016 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born on February 15, 1928, she was a daughter of the late John and Yvonne (Chaisson) Stewart. Elva was a talented cook, and an avid shopper. She loved to travel, especially to Miscou Island and Montreal to visit family. Every year she would bottle lobster from Miscou Island, which her family always looked forward to. She looked forward to spending time with her furry companion Coco. Her faith was very important to her. She was a long standing parishioner of St. Puis X Church, looked forward to daily Mass, and helped out wherever she could with the church. Elva is survived by her six children, Tony Ward (Joanne Mason); Terry (Jane) Ward; Gilbert Ward; Lucy (Mike) Warren; Roseline O’Brien; and Diane (Mike) O’Brien; her brothers Burns and Jean-Paul Stewart; and several nieces, nephews and grandchildren. Aside from her husband and parents she was predeceased by 18 brothers and sisters. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (634-7424). As per Elva’s wishes there will be no visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Puis X Church, 316 Somerset St., Saint John, on Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at 11:00 AM with a reception to follow in the church hall. Interment will take place at Ocean View Memorial Gardens at a later date. For those who wish, remembrances in memory of Elva may be made to the St. Puis X Building Fund or a charity of the donor’s choice.
