Obituary of Donald Splane Barlow
The death of Donald "Don" Splane Barlow husband of the late Margaret (Sprague) Barlow occurred on Sunday, January 15, 2017 at Carleton Kirk Lodge. Born on December 10, 1928 in West Saint John, he was the son of the late George and Josephine (Jenkins) Barlow. Prior to his retirement, Don worked for McMillan Press Ltd. for 48 years. He was a member of Portland United Church, where he was a former Trustee and Elder. Donald also served as former Treasurer of Saint John Presbytery and Trustee of the Wesleyan Burial Ground. He enjoyed his time spent volunteering at the North End Food Bank and was a member of Hibernia Lodge #3 and Past Worthy Patron of Saint John Chapter #14 OES. Don will be greatly missed by his two daughters, Judith (Kevin) Cleary of Quispamsis and Elaine (Tony) Salamé of Halifax; four grandchildren, Callum Cleary, Kate Cleary, Sabrina Salamé and Ava Salamé; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Mary (Barlow) Colwell and two brothers, Henry and George Barlow. As per Don’s request, no visitation will be held. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service, which will be held from Brenan’s Funeral Home Chapel, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) on Friday, January 20, 2017 at 1:00 PM and will be immediately followed by a reception. A private interment will take place in Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to Bobby’s Hospice.
