Obituary of Dennis Murphy

Murphy, Dennis- The peaceful passing of Dennis Murphy occurred on Friday, March 25, 2016 at his home in Rothesay. Dennis was born in Calgary, Alberta on Jan 2 in 1935. He graduated from St Mary's High in 1952 and went on to get his ticket as an electrician for the CPR. Dennis served in the military as a Lieutenant in Germany as part of the British Army of the Rhine in the early 1960s. He returned to Work Point Barracks in Victoria, BC and continued his service in the Black Watch in Gagetown, NB where he met his future wife June before transferring to the Queen's Own Rifles. When he retired from the military, he settled in Saint John where he married the love of his life, June Dexter in 1965. Dennis went on to achieve his education degree at the University of New Brunswick and proceeded to teach for the next 2 decades at Rothesay Collegiate School, Barnhill Memorial School and Simonds High. Dennis enjoyed playing sports, particularly hockey and football in his youth. As a family man, he spent countless weekends snow mobiling, snorkeling and boating on the Musquash and at the cottage on Parlee Beach with friends and family. Dennis was known for his ready wit and Irish tenor voice, a talent he shared when given the opportunity. In 1987, Dennis started the current family business, Atlantic Label, with his brother Michael and wife June where he served, until his passing, as President. Dennis is survived by his wife June (Dexter), his 2 children: Sharon Murphy-Flatt and Steven Dexter Murphy, his 3 grandchildren: Jerry Faye Flatt, Sheehan Flatt and Cassidy Murphy, his brother, Terrence (Pauline) Murphy, his sister-in-law, Shirley Murphy, special friends Uncle Davie and Mrs. Betty along with many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Florence (Veilleux) and Joe Murphy, his brother, Michael Murphy as well as his best friend and brother-in-law Val Dexter.
