Obituary of Mary Irene Lewis
It is with profound sadness that the family of Irene Lewis, loving wife of Michael Lewis, announces her passing which occurred on Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Irene was born on August 23, 1962 in Newcastle, NB and was a daughter to the late Albine and Melina (McGraw) Basque. It goes without saying, but Irene loved her family. Irene was a homemaker; she made doing normal things around the house, better for everyone. She made the most of every moment and lived life to its fullest. Irene enjoyed her travel adventures with Mike; whether it was exploring trails in the "buggy" or their annual trips to Florida or Montreal. She had a special place in her heart for her grandchildren and it showed through her enthusiasm to babysit, go on outings to the playground and always making sure she attended every event. She was a strong, family oriented woman, who, despite having long standing illnesses, maintained her positivity and carried on caring for and loving her family. Irene was the rock in her family and will be deeply missed. Irene will be lovingly remembered by her family, her husband Michael, their children: Julia (Peter) Halford and Jacob (Alisha Harvey) Lewis, her grandchildren: Benjamin, Penelope, Abigail, Eleanor and Brayden, siblings: Carmal Gough, Ronald, Anthony and David Basque, brother-in-law Kelly Lewis, sister-in-law Sylvie (Jeff) Fitzgerald along with many nieces, nephews and members of her extended family. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) where visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 27 from 2-4 and 6-8. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, December 28 at 12 Noon from Our Lady of the Assumption, 360 Dufferin Row with interment to follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Kidney Foundation.
