Obituary of Nelson Joseph Gagnon
It is with heavy hearts the family of Nelson Joseph Gagnon, best friend and beloved husband of the late June (McIntyre) Gagnon of 56 years, are saddened to announce his passing on Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at the Loch Lomond Village. He was born in Grand Falls, NB on March 11, 1933 to the late Hector and Elzena (Cameron) Gagnon. He is survived by his five daughters: Lynn Koumbias (Simon), Shirley Bruckschwaiger (Horst), Wanda Bruckschwaiger (Walter), Noella Newman (Greg) and Liza Gagnon; 12 grandchildren: Manuel (Jennifer), Amy (Cory), Sacha (Pat), Mellita (Mike), Melissa (Nathaniel), Jessica, Shawn (Arlene), Brandon, Kristian, Cecelia (Justin), Felicia and Eric; and 12 great grandchildren, brother-in-law Warren McIntyre, nephews and nieces. Beside his parents and wife June, Nelson was predeceased by his brothers Clarence and Gordon. Nelson had a long career as an electrician, spending his last 24 working years so proudly at St.Joseph's Hospital. Nelson loved playing his guitar and providing music, along with fellow musicians, to local nursing homes. He enjoyed playing cards with friends, square dancing and judo in his early years. Nelson was a handyman who could fix anything and spent many hours in his woodworking shop. He enjoyed camping, hiking through the woods and cross-country skiing. His faith was most important and he served as an Eucharistic and funeral minister. A compassionate and humble man who was forever quietly helping someone in need. Known as Bubby to his grandchildren, he reminded them of his love with "Guess what?! I love you"; and known by everyone as a true gentleman with a gentle soul. Bubby’s family are so grateful for the compassionate and excellent nursing care provided on Dogwood, Loch Lomond Village. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (634-7424) with visitation on Sunday, February 19, 2017 from 2-8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, February 20, 2017 at 12:10 PM from the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 91 Waterloo St., Saint John, NB. Interment will take place at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances in memory of Nelson may be made to the Cathedral Restoration Fund or the CHAMP program.
