Obituary of James Edward Brown

The death of James "Edward" Brown of Saint John, beloved husband of 62 years to Ann (Bennett) Brown occurred on Sunday, March 6, 2016 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born on May 21, 1930 in Poodiac, he was the son of the late Lawrence and Bernice (McDonald) Brown. Prior to his retirement, Edward served 37 years with the Port of Saint John as a heavy crane operator and was a proud member of the International Longshoreman Association. He loved surrounding himself in nature and especially enjoyed hunting and fishing. Edward also enjoyed listening to country music, square dancing, attending shows and hosting musical gatherings with family and friends. Those who knew him will always remember his teasing ways and unique sense of humour. Edward will be fondly remembered as a loving and dedicated husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. In addition to his wife, Ann, Edward is also survived by their daughter, Brenda Savidant (Rodney) of PEI; brother, Maurice Brown (Theresa) of Saint John; sisters, Doris McGinnis of Southfield, Helen Gallant of Sussex, Phyllis Gallant of Saint John and Florence Enright (Lorne) of Millidgeville; grandchildren, Sonja Hayes, Adam Hayes (Monique), Melissa Hayes, Jillian Stapleford (Kirk), Colton Meehan and Zachary Meehan; eight great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Edward was predeceased by his brother, Eldon Brown; as well as sisters, Theresa Brown and Audrey Sands. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visiting on Tuesday, March 8, 2016 from 1-4 and 6-8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Joseph’s Church, 4347 Loch Lomond Road, Saint John on Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at 11:00 AM. Interment will take place in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Norton, at a later date. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the SJRH Palliative Unit.
