Obituary of Mary Catherine Earle
The death of Mary Earle of Saint John, beloved wife of the late William Earle occurred on Friday, August 4, 2017 at Rocmaura Nursing Home surrounded by her loving family. Born on March 22, 1943 in Saint John, she was the daughter of the late John Francis (Frank) and Mary (Simpson) Oliver. Prior to her retirement, Mary worked in the retail industry at Kmart and Zellers store on the west side. In earlier years, she also owned and operated the Happy Days kindergarten in her home, and in the 70’s/80’s worked at NB- Tel and Simpson Sears. She devoted her life to caring for the needs of her family and treasured the times spent with those she loved. Mary especially loved the company of her grandchildren, who were her world. She enjoyed tole painting and assisting at HI-Y, through the Church of the Assumption, where she worked with local teens who she considered part of her extended family. She was a devote Catholic who took solace in attending Our Lady of the Assumption Church. She will be sadly missed by everyone who knew her. Mary’s family would like to express their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the entire staff of Rocmaura for the exceptional care that was provided to her. Mary is survived by her daughters, Susan Stevens (David) of Saint John and Mary Jane Hayward (Christopher) of Fort Saskatchewan, AB; brothers, Leo Oliver (Michael Sauve) of Montreal, John "Jack" Oliver (Patricia) of Grand Bay-Westfield and Harris Oliver of Portland, ME; sisters-in-law, Nora Oliver of Acamac and Georgie Godin of Grand Bay-Westfield; grandchildren, Ryan Stevens and William Hayward; as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her brothers, Joseph, Greg, Allen and Floyd; sisters-in-law, Beverly Oliver and Ann Oliver; niece, Shirley Oliver and nephew, Gregory Oliver. As per the family’s request, there will be no visitation. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial, which will be celebrated from Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 360 Dufferin Row, West Saint John on Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at 12:00 PM. Interment will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery. There will be a reception at Branch 69 Legion west at 1 PM. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424).
