With heavy hearts, the family of Stephen “Steve” Edward Ashford, loving husband of 56 years to the late Gladys May (Sterritt) Ashford, announce his passing on Friday, March 15, 2019 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born January 7, 1923 in Plaster Rock, NB, he was a son of the late Smith and Annie (Cottrell) Ashford.

Prior to retirement, Steve worked as a fireman on the riverboat “The S.S. Majestic” on the St. John River system. He drove “2 million miles” during 20 years of safe driving for SMT.
Steve is most remembered for his famous clams and chips. His take-out, “Steve’s Fish & Chips” was a Saint John staple from 1965-1990.
Steve is survived by his daughter, Dawn Marr; granddaughter, Angela Marr (Harrison Duffley); a brother, James Ashford; a sister, Shirley (Ashford) Francis; many nieces, nephews, golf and curling buddies, and his church family.
