Obituary of Gladys C. Spray
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Gladys C. Spray, of Saint John, NB. Gladys passed surrounded by her loving family at the Saint John Regional Hospital on February 18, 2016. Gladys was born on November 30, 1922 in Buctouche, NB to the late Violet (Bowser) and Donald MacPhail. She was predeceased by her loving husband Horace "Hank" and infant daughter. Gladys was known for her love of baking, she always had a fresh supply of cookies on hand to treat anyone who happened to drop into the house. When her eyesight was good she could be seen sitting in her chair doing embroidery work. She did many tablecloths and pillowcases, that many of her family still possess. She is survived by her son Donald (late Sandra), daughter Brenda (late Donald) McGovern and she was a special momma to Steven (Lana) Galbraith, Heather (Mark) Ferrar and Kent (Serena) McGovern. Other grandchildren include Wayne (Tammy), Stacey (David), David (Sandra), Christopher, Lisa and Wesley Spray. She is also survived by great and great-great grandchildren, and her brothers Douglas and Kenneth (Marie) MacPhail of Buctouche as well as several nieces and nephews. She will be sadly missed by special friends Anne Parks and Doreen Haycox. Besides her parents and husband she was predeceased by her sisters Helen Fairweather and Jean Collette, and brothers Malcolm, John "Jack", James and William MacPhail. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (634-7424) with visiting on Sunday, February 21, 2016 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. A funeral service will be held from Brenan’s Chapel on Monday, February 22, 2016 at 2:00 PM with a reception to follow. Interment will take place at Ocean View Memorial Gardens. For those who wish, remembrances in memory of Gladys may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of the donor’s choice.
