Obituary of Arthur Harrison McKim
Arthur Harrison McKim, formerly of 27 Somerset Park, in Saint John, passed away at the Carleton Kirk Lodge, on March 19, 2005. Born in Saint John, in 1925, to the late George P. and Margaret (Harrison) McKim. He graduated from Saint John High School and Modern Business College. He was a WW II army veteran having served overseas with the Carleton York Regiment. During most of his working career he was involved in the plumbing and heating industry. At the Time of his retirement in 1980 he was Vice-President of Lloyd R. Mawhinney Ltd., having worked nearly 30 years with the firm. Earlier in life, he spent many summers at the family farm in Armstrong's Corner, Queen's Co., His love of this area caused him to be involved with the Armstrong's Corner group for the 50th year Reunion of the Evacuation of the former Base Gagetown Communities, 2003. He was also a member of the NB Genealogical Society (Saint John Branch) and the Queen's Co. Genealogical Society. He was a life member of Portland United Church, where he served many terms on the Board of Stewarts and was later made an honourary member of the Board. He was the church Treasurer for a number of years and was a member of the Men's Club for over 40 years. His first wife, Miriam Louise Carle, daughter of the late Frederick and Dorothy (Wightman) Carle, of Florenceville, passed away in 1979. He later married Elizabeth (Hamilton) Lingley, daughter of the late Harley and Etta (Purvis) Hamilton, who passed away in 1990. He is survived by his son Frederick Arthur McKim, of Charlottetown, PEI. Also survived by brothers John and James McKim, both of St. Stephen, by brother in-in-law Carmen (Ruth) Carle of Summerside, PEI, by sister-in-law Mona McKim of Saint John, by step sons John (Joanne) and Richard (Vicki) Lingley and step-daughter Joan (Lingley) Armstrong, all of Saint John, along with step-grandchildren Bethany, Keith, Emily and Stephen and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sisters Joan (McKim) McCabe and Kathleen McKim and his brothers Bruce McKim and infant brother Harry McKim. Resting at Brenans Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row (634-7424) with visiting on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 22, 2005, at 2:30 pm, from Portland United Church. Interment will take place at Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery. Remembrances made to Portland United Church or the charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated.
