Obituary of Robert Walter Nesbit
The death of Robert Walter 'Bob' Nesbit, husband of Barbara (Snow) Nesbit, occurred on December 17, 2004, in Gallup, New Mexico. Born in Saint John he was the son of the late Walter and Dorothy (Hayward) Nesbit. He was a trumpet player since the age of 14 having played with the Saint John High School Band, Carlem Cornet Band, the Sammy Cowan Orchestra, the Page Ormandy Orchestra, the 1st RNBR, the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 69, Walter Marsh & the Comadores, St. Mary's Band and Big John Little's Band. During his time in Sarnia, ON, he played with the Sarnia Citizen's Band and the Horace Korning Orchestra, then in Cape Breton, NS, he served as the Vice President of the Musician's Union along with being the director of the Sydney Mines Legion Band, a member of the Cape Breton Big Band, the director of the Bob Nesbit & Steinsmen, the director of the Bob Nesbit's Dixieland Band, the director of the Cape Breton Firefighter's Fraternal Association, a member of the Bluebirds and the Eddie Parris Orchestra. He was also a member of the George Rose Big Band in Brantford, ON, and the Church Lads Brigade, the Jazz East and Gower Community Band in St. John's NFLD. He was an active member of St. Mary's & St. Bartholomew's Anglican Church serving as a Lay Reader. He was a Senior Piping Design Technician having held senior positions in Chemical and Oil Refineries, Offshore Platforms and Construction Industries since 1965. He was currently employed with Noramtec Consultants and was contracted with Giant Refinery, Gallop, New Mexico, and previously with KBR, St. John's, NFLD, ESSO Refinery, Nanticoke, ON, Fluor, Calgary, ALBT, and the Irving Oil Refinery, Saint John. Before joining Noramtec Consultants he had worked with Irving Oil Ltd., Saint John, Lavalin Ltd., Halifax, Monenco contracted to Nova Scotia Power, Halifax, Irving Oil Ltd., Saint John, J.W. Rudderham Ltd., Sydney, NS, Acres Consulting Ltd., Sydney, NS, Canatom Mon-Max Ltd., Sydney, NS, Tara Engineering & Construction Ltd., Sarnia, ON, G. R. Lonergan Assoc. Ltd., Sarnia, ON, Catalytic Construction & Engineering Co. Ltd., Sarnia, ON, and Saint John Ship Building Ltd., Saint John. Besides his wife he is survived by his sons Steven and his wife Sheila of Edmonton, ALBT, Michael and his wife Joanne of Saint John, Thomas of Edmonton, ALBT, his brother Gary Nesbit and his wife Ann of Lower Sackville, NS, his grandchildren Michael, Tara, Allie and Robbie and his great-grandson Bryston and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Resting at Brenans Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row (634-7424), with visiting on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM and Thursday from 10:00 until 12 NOON. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 23, 2004, at 2:00 PM, from St. Mary's & St. Bartholomew's Church. Interment will take place at Ocean View Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers remembrances made to St. Mary's & St. Bartholomew's Memorial Fund or the New Brunswick Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
