Obituary of John M. Whelpley
The death of John Merrill Whelpley of Carter's Pt., husband of Ellen (Best) Whelpley, occurred on Wednesday, July 20, 2005, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Carter's Pt., he was a son of the late John and Isabella (Smith) Whelpley. John was employed with UNB Fredericton as their Chief Stationary Engineer until his retirement in 1982. Besides his wife he is survived by five daughters: Mary (Paul) Arthurs of Bayswater, NB; Nancy Whelpley of Mill Cove, NB; Martha Crabbe of Carter's Pt.; Laura (William) Mills of Saint John, NB; Paula Whelpley of Fredericton, NB; one brother Stanley (Georgina) Whelpley of Carter's Pt.; several grandchildren, six great-grandchildren. Besides his parents he was predeceased by one daughter Susan Whelpley who passed away in 2005, two brothers and three sisters. By the request of John there will be no funeral home visitation. A graveside service will be held at Hardings Pt. Loyalist Cemetery on Friday, July 22, 2005 at 2:00 pm. Remembrances may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Parkinson Foundation or a charity of the donor's choice.
