Obituary of Florence Fern Perry
The death Fern Perry of Eldon Lane, Grand Bay-Westfield, wife of Willard Joseph Perry, occurred on June 21, 2004 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Woodstock, NB on April 10, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Julius and Evelyn (Miller) Nielsen. Fern was the owner/operator of Fern's Diner in Welsford, NB and Rainbow Glamour Salon in Saint John both for years. She was a member of the Ladies Institute in Grand Bay/Welsford, the Catholic Women's League of St. Matthew's Parish, River Valley Seniors Club and was active in the Red Cross during World War II. She loved quilting, worshiping God, and spending time with her children. Fern was the last surviving member of the Nielsen family. Besides her husband she is survived by three stepsons; James (Irene) Perry of British Columbia, Willard L. Perry Jr. of North Bay, ON and Roddick N. (Trudy) Perry of Pocologan, NB; three stepdaughters; Patricia (Les) Dickensen of British Columbia, Ruth (Bill) Wells of Clarks Beach, Nfld and Dorothy (Bob) Simcock of Hamilton, ON; many beloved nieces and nephews and their children. She was predeceased by her first husband John E. Lavereau; two sisters Anna Perry and Dorothy Grant; one brother Julius Duke Nielsen (one of the original members of the Don Messer Jubilee) and nephew Rev. Dr. Fred Nielsen. At Fern's Request there will be no visitation at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Matthews Parish, Grand Bay-Westfield, on Tuesday June 29, 2004 at 10 am. Interment will take place in Welsford Valley Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of New Brunswick. The funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB, (506-634-7424).
