Obituary of Michael John McCarthy
McCARTHY, MICHAEL J.- The death of Michael “Mike” John McCarthy of 18 Lila Court, Quispamsis, husband of Marge (Potten) McCarthy, occurred on Sunday, February 20, 2005 at his residence. Born in Edmundston, NB, he was the son of the late John and Beatrice (McLaughlin) McCarthy. Mike was a member of the ILA and was employed with Forterm at the Port of Saint John for 30 years until his retirement in 2002 due to illness. Mike's greatest enjoyment was his cottage at the Cambridge Narrows where he spent much of his time in the last few years. Besides his wife, he is survived by his sons, Scott (Shannon) of Quispamsis and Sean of Hampton, one step-son, Russell O'Blenis (Amber) of Calgary, one step-daughter, Kelly O'Blenis (Jason) of Chilliwack, BC, five brothers, Ted of Mississauga, ON, Pat of Riverview, Donnie, Jim (Sandra) and Kevin (Cathy) all of Saint John, two sisters, Colleen Edwards (Don) of Aurora and Suzanne Bird of Fredericton, two grandsons, Logan McCarthy and Tyler O'Blenis, mother-in-law, Joyce Potten, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one sister, Barb Herrington and one brother, Mark. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Tuesday and Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Assumption Parish, 360 Dufferin Row, Saint John West on Thursday, February 24, 2005 at 12:00 Noon. Following cremation, interment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery at a later date. Remembrances to the Canadian Cancer Society, Romero House Soup Kitchen or the charity of the donors' choice would be appreciated.
