Obituary of Bessie Freda Selby
SELBY, BESSIE F. ? The death of Bessie Freda (Ware) Selby of Germain Street, Saint John, NB, wife of the late Lewis Selby, occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Tuesday, August 16, 2005. Born in Baltimore, MD, she was the daughter of the late Sam and Sarah Ware. Bessie was well known for her cooking show “Cooking with Bessie” on CHSJ, she was a frequent personality on Morning Side on CBC Radio and was a founding member of the barbershop ladies choir, Sea Belles. Bessie worked along with her husband at the family business, Princess Dress Shop on Union Street for many years. She was also an active member of the Sisterhood of the Congregation, Shaarei Zedek Synagogue. She had a love for gardening, cooking and music. Survived by three sons: Michael Selby (Juanita) of Hornby Island, BC, Sanford Selby of Saint John, and Robert Selby of Quispamsis, NB, one step-son: Allan Selby of Fredericton, NB and one granddaughter: Shoshonah Selby. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424). The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 17, 2005 at 3:00 pm at Brenan's Chapel. Interment will take place in Shaarei Zedek Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to Romero House-Soup Kitchen would be appreciated by the family.
