Obituary of Mary Lorraine Walter

The death of Dr. Mary Lorraine Walter, wife of the late R. Earl Walter, occurred on February 16, 2005, following a brief illness, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Woodstock, NB, she was the daughter the late Charles Gordon Noble and the late Marjorie (Thorne) Noble. Prominent in the field of education she was a graduate of Woodstock High School, the New Brunswick Teacher's College, the University of New Brunswick and Boston University where she received her Doctorate in Education. She taught in many elementary, junior and senior high schools throughout the province and at both the undergraduate and graduate university levels. She was an active member of many organizations serving as a former director of the New Brunswick Teacher's Association Credit Union, former president of the Central Council of the International Reading Association, former chair of the Education Committee of the Saint John Chapter of the Canadian Federation of University Women and former chair of various district workshops and development committees. She was a member of the Retired Teacher's Association of New Brunswick. She was a founding member of the Saint John Chapter of the Parkinson Foundation serving as secretary and president and was a director of the national Parkinson Foundation. She was a member and former elder of St. Andrew's and St. David's United Church. She was a member of the Union Club. She is survived by her sister Frances Chambers and her husband Fergus of Ottawa, her nephew Brian Chambers of Ottawa, her niece Dr. Karen Chambers of Ladysmith, Quebec, great-nephews Andrew, Braeden and Liam and several cousins. Resting at Brenans Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row (634-7424), with visiting on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The funeral service will be held on Monday, February 21, 2005, at 2:00 PM, from St. Andrew's and St. David's United Church. Following cremation interment will take place at Fernhill Cemetery. Remembrances made to the Parkinson's Foundation of Canada, Maritime Region, the New Brunswick Heart and Stroke Foundation or the charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated.
