Obituary of Constance C. Quinn

Quinn, Constance (Connie) C. (neé Power d.o.b. July 20, 1920) - It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of our mother on August 17, 2004. Surrounded by her loving family, Mom died after a courageous and difficult struggle with severe arthritis. Despite the almost continuous pain which arthritis caused her, Mom led a purposeful and fulfilled life and was always supportive of her family through the good and challenging times. She was loved by all who knew her and delighted in gathering people to celebrate, no matter how small the occasion. She especially loved to laugh and make other people laugh. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren loved to be “entertained” by Nanny Quinn. She saw her love of music grow through her children and grandchildren. Mom was married to Frederick M. J. Quinn, a long serving Saint John harbour pilot, who passed away in 1982. For many years Connie and Fred enjoyed gathering their family and friends at their summer home at Loch Lomond. Mom participated in many community associations including St. Vincent's High School Alumni, St. Vincent's Bridge Club, Charter Member and Past President of St. John the Baptist Parish CWL, Member of St. Pius X Parish CWL and the St. Joseph's Hospital Auxiliary where she held the position of Recording Secretary for over 20 years. She was also a dedicated member of the Saint John Women's Liberal Association. Mom was the last surviving member of her immediate family having been predeceased by her sister Marion McNulty (Fred), brothers William G. Power (Ronalda) and Arthur F. Power. She is survived by her seven children, Betty Poley (Ralph) of Saint John, Dr. John Quinn (Betty) of Rothesay, Catherine O'Leary (Kevin) of Grand Bay - Westfield, Evelyn Bannister (Joseph) of Saint John, Dr. Joan Quinn of St. John's NL, James Quinn (Lynn) of Ottawa and Dr. Eileen Quinn (Jake van der Laan) of Rothesay, as well as 15 grandchildren Stephen and Michael Poley, Danielle and Michael Quinn, Daniel, Justin, Ryan and Cathleen O'Leary, Robert and Kimberley Bannister, Meaghan and Aaron Quinn and Sarah, Isaac and Anneke van der Laan and three great-grandchildren Tyler Thorne and Austin Poley and Corie O'Leary, as well as many nieces and nephews. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Thursday and Friday 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Connie's family invite friends and family to a mass of celebration of her life to be held at St. Pius X Church, Somerset Street, Saint John, on Saturday, August 21, 2004 at 10:00 AM. Interment in St. Joseph's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks contributions be made to the Arthritis Society, Divine Mercy Catholic School, St. Joseph's Hospital Auxiliary or a charity of the donor's choice.
