Obituary of Walter James Payne
The death of Walter James Payne of the St. John & St. Stephen Church Home, University Avenue, Saint John, NB, husband of Mary Carmella (LeBlanc) Payne, occurred on Friday, May 28, 2004 at the Saint John Regional Hospital after a period of failing health. Born in Saint John, NB, he was a son of the late James and Ella (Smith) Payne and was a lifelong resident of this city. Walter was employed with Sears for over thirty-two years before retirement. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Linda Craig and Lori (Brian) Thibeau, both of Ontario; a step-son, Dale MacFarlane of St. Stephen, NB; five sisters, Vera Wescott of Ontario, Gladys Payne of Saint John, Grace Comeau, Jean Linkert, and Marjorie Craig, all of Ontario; five grandchildren, Amanda, Jenna, Emily, Nicholas, and Kathlin; and several nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his parents, a sister, Ruth and a daughter, Leanne. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB, (506-634-7424) with visiting on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral will be held from Brenan's Chapel on Monday with service at 2:15 p.m. Interment will take place at Ocean View Memorial Gardens. Remembrances may be made to the charity of the donors' choice.
