Obituary of Peter Douglas Friars
The death of Peter Douglas Friars age 55, husband of Nancy (Young) Friars of East Saint John, NB, occurred on Tuesday, September 14, 2004 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. He was born in Saint John, and was the son of Florence (MacPherson) Friars and the late Russell Friars. Peter was a member of Park Avenue United Church, the Saint John Executive Association and was honoured to serve on various municipal committees for the City of Saint John and also the Board of Trade. Peter served as President of the PC Party (Saint John/Champlain) and was a member of the Masonic Order, Saint John's Lodge #2, F & A.M. and the Saint John Rotary Club. His hobbies included, singing, reading and long walks. Peter loved spending time with his grandchildren. Besides his wife he is survived by three sons, Jonathan (Krista) of Rothesay, Corey and Patrick of Saint John; two grandsons, Jacob and Kaleb; his mother, Florence Friars, two brothers, Billy (Marion), Glenn (Gail); nine sisters, Bette (Mel) Vincent, Darlene Friars, Barbara (Brian) Walker, Heather (Terry) Stilwell), Wendy (Bob) Youden, Jane (Paul) Dalton, Lynn (Jim) MacDonald, Tracy Friars, Kelly (Bill) Duguay; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. He will be fondly remembered by his mother-in-law, Margaret Young and sisters-in-law, Barbara (Gordon) Simms and Brenda Young. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (506) 634-7424 with visiting on Wednesday, September 15, 2004 from 7-9 pm and Thursday, September 16, 2004 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Funeral Service will be held from Park Avenue United Church, 100 Wilton Street, Saint John East on Friday, September 17, 2004 at 2 pm. A Masonic Service will be held at the Funeral Home on Thursday evening at 7:30 pm. Interment will take place in Fernhill Cemetery. Following the Interment a reception will be held at Park Avenue United Church. Memorial Donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Park Avenue United Church Memorial Fund or a charity of the donor's choice.
