Obituary of Walter Ambrose Butler

BUTLER, WALTER A.- The death of Walter Ambrose Butler, of Rothesay, NB, husband of Gertrude (Walsh) Butler, occurred on Saturday, July 5, 2003, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John, he was the son of the late James and Mary Eleanor (Trainor) Butler. Mr. Butler was the Regional Manager of National Drug Company for many years, before his retirement. Walter was a former member of St. Peter's Parish, Holy Name Society of St. Peter's Parish and active in the choir, before moving to Rothesay, where he was a member Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, and their church choir, and was a 4th Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a former member of U.C.T., and the Rotary Club of Saint John, where he was active with the Boy's and Girl's Club of Saint John and a member of the Probis Club of Saint John. Besides his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Ann Barbour of Rothesay, two sisters, Sister Agnes Butler, SCIC and Rosie McLaughlin, both of Saint John, three grandchildren, Mary Beth Barbour, Andrew (Drew) Barbour and Margot Stevenson, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one daughter, Beth Stevenson, granddaughter, Sara Jane, brothers, Vincent Butler, Msgr. Joseph Butler, Leonard Butler and Father Albert Butler and sisters, Helen Holmes and Loretta Cormier. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Tuesday, July 8, 2003 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Rothesay, on Wednesday, July 9, 2003, at 12:00 Noon. Interment in St. Joseph's Cemetery, at a later date. Remembrances to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated. “To Love another person is to see the face of God”.
