Obituary of Leo Joseph Roy

The death of Leo Joseph Roy, husband of Marie 'Clara' (Leblanc) Roy, occurred on Friday, March 14, 2003, at his residence. Born in Bathurst, NB, he was the son of the late Arthur J. and Leona (Tremblay) Roy. He came to Saint John with his family at the age of five where he received his education at local schools. As a young man, Leo worked for McAvity's and was a window glazer at Christie's. He began his career with Lantic Sugar in the Boiler House in 1952 as an Industrial Mechanic Grade I. He was a member St. Pius X Parish and Knights of Columbus and a very active member of Holy Trinity for fifteen years. A family man he enjoyed vacations to the LeBlanc farm at Conway, NS. He loved bowling, fishing, playing cards, horseshoes and the Blue Jays Baseball Team. His trade mark was his weather-worn striped peak cap which had his carefully adjusted tilt to highlight a broad familiar grin. Besides his wife of 52 years, Leo is also survived by his daughters Rosemarie Clare Roy of Calgary and Roxanne Lee Kasden and her husband Paul of Saint John, his sisters, Patricia (Alvery) LeBlanc, Marie (Albert) Gallant, all of Saint John, his grandchildren Adrienne, Oliver and Yelena Kasden, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one sister, Geneva Schoshig, and brothers: Arthur Jr., Amedee, Alfred, Laurie, Ronald, John and Gordon Roy. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB, (506-634-7424), with visiting on Sunday from 7-9 p.m. and Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 18, 2003, at 11:00 a.m. from St. Pius X Church. Interment will take place at St. Joseph's Cemetery. Remembrances may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Heart and Stroke Foundation of New Brunswick or a charity of the donors' choice. www.brenansfh.com
