Obituary of Rita Blanche Laird

The death of Rita Blanche Laird, formerly of Millidge Ave. Saint John, wife of the late George Laird, occurred on Wednesday February 18, 2004, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in St. Martins, NB, she is the daughter of the late, Charles “Wesley” and Ida Blanche (Morrell) Spragg. Rita was employed at McAvity's on Rothesay Ave, the General Hospital and York Cotton Mill for many years before her retirement. She was a member of the Salvation Army. She is survived by her daughter, Arlene (John) Allen of Saint John, NB, her brothers; Hubert (Ida) Spragg of Fredericton, NB, Lawrence (Eleanor) Spragg of Cambridge ON, Gerald (Elaine) Spragg, Howard (Olive) Spragg, Donald Spragg and Jimmy (Joan) Spragg all of Saint John, NB. Rita is also survived by two grandchildren, Bradley and Sheena Allen and several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her brother, George Spragg and her sister-in-law, Nancy Spragg. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB, (506-634-7424), with visitation on Thursday 7-9PM and Friday 2-4 and 7-9PM. The funeral will be held at the Salvation Army Community Church, 27 Prince Edward St. Saint John, NB on Saturday, February 21, 2004 with a service at 11AM. Interment will take place at Fernhill cemetery.
