Obituary of Eleanor Joanna Estabrook
Estabrook (Alexander), Eleanor Joanna: Eleanor Joanna (Alexander) Estabrook died peacefully at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Wednesday, September 24, 2003. She faced her final illness as she lived her life- with serenity and calm strength. Eleanor was born in Saint John, NB and was the daughter of the late Frank J. Alexander and Alice (O'Brien) Alexander. She worked at the New Brunswick Compensation Board and volunteered as a nurse in England during World War II. She then moved to Arvida, Québec, where she met and married Jim Estabrook. They raised their family in Sarnia, Ontario. Eleanor and Jim spent the years of Jim's retirement exploring the parks and nature preserves of Southwestern Ontario. Jim died in 1991 and Eleanor eventually returned to Saint John, NB. She lived with her brother, Father Arthur E. Alexander at St. Joseph's Church Rectory. She made many friends there who enriched the rest of her life. Eleanor was predeceased by her son, Francis James, who died shortly after birth, by her sisters Jean and Dorothy and by her brothers Robert and Charles. She is survived by her daughters; Jean Estabrook (Kevin Bell), Toronto, Ont., Elizabeth Estabrook (Philip Mundy), Vancouver, BC and Claire Estabrook (Rob Penrose), Calgary, AB, four grandchildren- Jimmy & Elizabeth Penrose and Alexander & Claire Mundy; her brothers; Francis, Alfred and Arthur all of Saint John, NB, Harry, Miramichi, NB, and Walter, Iles des Soeurs, Montréal, PQ and numerous nieces and nephews. Eleanor was a member of St. Joseph's Council The Catholic Women's League of Canada, St. Joseph's Hospital Auxiliary and The Silver Links Seniors Club. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (506-634-7424) with visiting on Sunday only from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by her brother, Rev. Arthur Alexander on Monday, September 29, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. from St. Joseph's Church, Loch Lomond Rd. Following cremation, interment will take place at St. Joseph's Cemetery on Tuesday. Remembrances may be made to the Palliative Care Unit of the Saint John Regional Hospital.
