Obituary of Josie Isabella Tobias
The death of Josie Isabella Tobias, wife of Harold T. Tobias, occurred peacefully on February 27, 2004, at her residence. Born in Sunny Corner, N.B. she was the daughter of the late William and Annie (Nowlan) Porter. She was a parishioner of Our Lady of Assumption Church and was a member of the Ladies of Maronites. She was the proprietor of T & J Fashions. She was an avid golfer and curler known and respected throughout the Maritimes. She was a member of Pine Needles Golf Club, Shediac, a long time member Riverside Golf and Country Club and the Palm Hill Country Club, Largo, Florida. She was past president of the New Brunswick Chapter of Canadian Women's Senior Golf Association. Besides her husband she is survived by her son Chris Tobias of Saint John, her daughter Joanna Billingsley (Terry) of Chance Harbour, her brother Frank Porter (Fran) of Eastern Passage, NS, her sisters Dianne Porter of Saint John, Helen McCullum (Ronald) of Saint John, Noreen Martin (Reginald) of Black River Bridge, her grandchildren Matthew Tobias, Derek Billingsley (Naomi), Roy Billingsley (Jenn), Shane Billingsley (Lynda), Tanya White (Paul), Jamie McPhee (John), her great grandchildren Claire, Emma, Kahleah and Paige, and several cousins, nieces and nephews. Her son Stephen Tobias, brothers Clair Porter, John Porter, and William Porter and sister Mona MacTavish predeceased her. Following cremation at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB, (506-634-7424), visitation will be held on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Monday, March 1, 2004, at 12:00 NOON, from Our Lady of the Assumption Church. Remembrances made to the charity of choice would be appreciated.
