Obituary of Waldo Elmer Beckett
The death of Waldo E. Beckett, husband of Helen (Kirk) Beckett of Oak Point NB, occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on January 5, 2004. Born in New Jerusalem, NB, he was the son of the late Eldon C. and Florence B. (Johnson) Beckett. Waldo served in WW ll as an officer and pilot with the Royal Canadian Air Force 424 “Tiger” Squadron , and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #87. Waldo was an active member of the Brown's Flat Baptist Church, acting as both a Deacon and a Trustee. He was a mill-wright by trade working many years with his father and then for Beckett Lumber in Martinon. He also worked for 10 years with his brother-in-law, Bill Kirk, as grocery manager of the IGA in Martinon. Waldo was very much a family man, being married to his wife Helen for over 55 years. Besides his wife Helen he is survived by five sons, Rev. Dr. Malcolm Beckett (Laura), Grand Bay- Westfield, NB, David Beckett (Jacqueline), Brown's Flat, NB, Henry Beckett (Elona), Brown's Flat, NB, Roy Beckett (Kimberley), Canning, NS, and Eldon Beckett, Oak Point, NB, two daughters, Linda Beckett, Saint John, NB, and Joyce McKay (Freeman), Hampstead, NB, one brother Eldon Beckett (Jean), Brown's Flat, NB, six sisters, Irma Bevans, Stanford, Conn. USA, Marion Aulbrook (Al), Windsor, Ont, Gwendolyn McNaught, Perth, Ont, Elizabeth Messer (Walter), Renforth, NB, Marguerite Dunlop, Fredericton, NB, and Lois Boldon, Fredericton, NB, thirteen grandchildren Benjamin Beckett,(Miranda), Sarah Cook, (Trevor), Michael Beckett, Brittney Beckett, John McKay, Caleb Beckett, Samuel Beckett, Ethan Beckett, Justin McKay, Joshua Beckett, Elizabeth Beckett, Nicole Beckett and Curtis McKay, several cousins, nieces and nephews. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Wednesday 2-4, 7-9 PM. Funeral will be held in the Brown's Flat Baptist Church on Thursday, January 8, 2004, at 2:00 PM, with interment to follow in the Oak Point Baptist Cemetery. Remembrances in lieu of flowers may be made to Oak Point Baptist Cemetery, or donor's choice would be appreciated by the family.
