Obituary of Douglas R. Shaw

Shaw, Douglas R. (Coach); Passed away peacefully, Douglas Rodney Shaw of Millidge Ave, husband of Hazel (Dykeman) Shaw, occurred on Saturday, December 20, 2003 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Yarmouth, NS, he was the son of the late Stephen and Frances (Rodney) Shaw. For several years Doug owned and operated Dykeman's Hardware Ltd. He served as sergeant in the Canadian Armed Forces during WWII. His greatest joy revolved around his family and his faith in God. He served his church faithfully in the capacity of treasurer, deacon, trustee and as a member of the Board of Management. He was married to the love of his life, Hazel for sixty years. He lived his life to the fullest and particularly enjoyed outdoor activities with his five sons and numerous friends. He had a contagious personality and had a unique way of making everyone he met feel important. Besides his wife he is survived by five sons; David (Lynda), Donald (Janet) both of Rothesay, James (Marjorie), Robert (Ruth) and William (Cynthia) all of Saint John, two brothers; Murray (Emma) of New Minas, NS, Vernon (Ellen) of Dartmouth, NS, one sister Ora (James) McAfee of Saint John, twelve grandchildren; Kimberly (Greg) Armstrong, Tracey (William) Leroy, Craig, Christine (Edward) Reevey, Jeffrey, Jan (Samuel) Carlisle, Jill, Brittany, Erin, Kelly, Andrew and Peter Shaw, one great-grandchild Katherine Reevey, several nieces and nephews. Resting at Main Street Baptist Church with visiting on Monday and Tuesday, December 22 & 23, 2003 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The funeral service will be held from Main Street Baptist Church on Wednesday, December 24, 2003 at 11:00 am. Interment will be held in Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery. Remembrances may be made to Main Street Baptist Church 211 Main Street, Saint John, NB, E2K 1H7 or to the charity of the donor's choice.
